"The relay needs a charging alternator and the oil pressure warning lamp off. These two tell the relay if the engine is running or not. Important in an accident. You don't want the fuel pump running if there is a fire."

"Idle has it's own circuit separate from everything. If it won't idle the problem is probably blockage at the solenoid down to the idle mix screw. The Z24 carbs are set for mixture and sealed at the factory. I just pull that plug out."

Profile Information

How many 720's or other Nissan trucks do you own? What years and types?
I own a 620... but it has enough 720 parts in it to make one. I guess I'm a closet 720 owner really.
What modifications have you done to your truck(s)
'78 620 KC cab on modified '82 2wd long wheelbase frame with '80 transfer case added. 4.11 differential at moment, with modified yoke to fit the larger Z24 drive shaft. Spring mounts relocated to top of axle and Ford F-150 rear leaves used. Reg cab long wheelbase 14 Imperial gallon gas tank. FS5W71B 5spd from an '80 200sx car. '88 D21 Hardbody motor with '84 intake and carb, at moment. '81 200sx rad with Volvo electric pusher fan. Larger gear reduction starter from an '84 Maxima L24E motor. SAS from an early '80s 'Yoda with 4 piston calipers and Ford F-150 rear springs used. Cross steering from a Hardbody power steering box. 90 amp alternator from an '88 Plymouth K car. Wire harness from an '85 720 4X4 to make everything work. The only original thing left is the short 620 harness between the two tail lights. The cab was replaced years ago after it was stolen and rolled, so even it isn't the original. Electric windows from an '80 200sx car. 720 dash and steering column from an '85 4X4 with optional tach and clock, 720 4X4 consul with oil and volt gages, 720 heater, bucket seats from a Chrysler Daytona Turbo, steering wheel from a 280zx car, 720 carpet. Chevy 6 bolt rims with 33X12.5 tires.

To do list: Finish the custom front drive shaft. Body work. Finish my 620 long to short box conversion (have flat bed now) Get everything running well and swap ported and polished Z24 head with '80-'81 200sx intake and KA EFI onto existing Z24 motor.

Ya know your absolutely right and I never thought about it like that. I was looking at it like one was a retarded spark just to reduce emisions before they exhusted. Thanks again for the input - saved me a lot of time going nowhere with that one!!!

That's what I also figured Mike. I wish I could use this thing in my 81 but it's just too different to try and retrofit it in there. Say have you ever heard of anyone trying to eliminate the emission spark side of the Z motors? I'm right in the right spot on my motor to do it if I could find someone who could tell me if it works or not. Otherwise I'd just as soon put it back stock. Thanks for all your info!!

Yea Mike, My question about the rad. is that I aquired an almost new rad. from a guy who had some 79's and 80's 720's with the L20b motors and this rad wont fit my 81 - it's too small and the water outlet is on the wrong side. I was just wanting to try and identify it to know what all year trucks it would fit?

hey mikey mike... need to pick your brain again!!! lol, anyway... my truck just started running weird!!!... when im in bout 3rd or 4th gear and im at low idle... i noticed when i press the gas more at low idle.. black smoke comes out of the exhaust!!!... also, for some reason, cant get an idle in cold mornings no more. and when im warmed up... my rpm needle is jumping around... wtf???? n e way, its a z24 lower and a z22 head. im thinking that my piston rings are shot and my compression is crapping out. i dont have time for a compression test right now so, what are your inputs and how can i approach this for the time being?... oh yeah, wen i floor it everytime i get in the high rpms on a low gear, i shoot out black smoke. do you think it may be my fuel pump perhaps?. soory to cry to you lol.
